My favourite player as a kid,my mum made a number 11 out of an old shirt and put it on my first ever West ham shirt...was a great winger for a few years but didn't live up to his potential, think he's lived in South Africa for years.

I seem to remember him being an inside forward as it was called then and Greenwood moved him out to the wing to protect him. Scored a lovely goal in the 64 cup final.

OLD GEEZER

Re: John Sissons

I knew him quite well. He drank in my dads pub and I went to his wedding. He was the most wanted youth plays in the country and went to West Ham because they were an ageing side and his first choice, Chelsea, were full of young internationals. It worked because he was in the side at 17 and was the youngest player to ever score in a cup final. He was terrific in those first 2/3 years and looked to be a certain international but he never quite reached his potential and although he had a good career he was not the player that we all thought he would become. He lives in South Africa were he finished his career.

An amazing youth team player and in a class of his own. In truth, he never really took that forward, as he became a senior player. Always a decent player, he was a bit overshadowed, by the likes of Moore, Hurst, Peters and Byrne.

An interesting bit in Moore's autobiography about Sissons. In Moore's opinion, a player held back by Greenwood as he never let him grow-up. Ron always referred to him as 'young John' even after he retired. In truth, he was really a typical WHU player of that time I think. Promised much but never really went on to be the player expected.

Spot on, Blagg. Sis sons was a youth super star, but he stopped improving and never seemed to develop into his full potential. A bit like the rest of that wonderful youth team.
